Who is Luna Web Design?
My name is Michael Skipper and I am a freelance web designer and proprietor of Luna Web Design. I am currently employed by Virginia Beach City Public Schools as one of their webmasters. I have been designing web sites for several years now. I first got into designing web site while working for Ford Motor Company in Norfolk, Virginia. While rying to find a company that could help me design a website, I ran into several people that wanted to charge me an outrageous prices for a web site that didn't have the functionality that I needed nor wanted. I decided to build my own web site from scratch. The final product was a website that was over 2,000 pages. Little did I know that it could have been done in only a few pages had I known what I know now.
Since then my interest in web design has grown along with my skills. I enjoy the prospect of helping businesses get their web site online. I consider building web sites as more of a hobby than a profession in that I enjoy it that much. Whether it is a simple web site or one that requires the use of databases or special programming, I enjoy the challenges each one demands. I also like meeting new clients and learning about the different businesses in the Hampton Roads area. With all of my clients, I provide a one on one working relationship with them. For any task that are out of my skill range, I have a large pool of people from which I can either get assistance from or contract work out to. I am often available throughout the day and on weekends to assist with support or questions that arise. I also have clients in the Hampton Roads area including Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and as far away as West Virginia.
While working for Virginia Beach City Public Schools, I am also going to Old Dominion University full-time. I am pursuing a degree in Information Systems from the College of Business and Public Administration. I am alos getting a minor in Web Programming from the Computer Science department. Why Information Systems? I had thought about a degree in Computer Science, however when I looked at the Information System's curriculum it was better suited to my career goals. The degree incompasses a wide range of studies from finance to marketing, computer programming and systems analysis. The curriculum, I feel makes me better rounded to help my clients plan the website and their marketing goals. I will be graduating in the Spring of 2011.
